How the Process Works

1. Locate and Document Your Key Code - If the key doesn't have a code we can decode the key by your Photo

Look at the head (the bow) or the shoulder of your key. Most original keys feature a stamped alphanumeric code.

• Common Formats: You might see a short sequence like FR322, G38, HF321, or 5001-6000.
• Tip: If the code is faint, try rubbing a pencil lead over it to make the characters pop in your photo.

2. Take a Verification Photo - If the key doesn't have a code we can decode the key by your Photo

We require a photo to act as a "digital blueprint." Lay your key on a flat, solid-colored surface (like a white piece of paper).

• Ensure the photo is taken directly from above the key, make sure your close enough and the image is straight and in focus
• Take the photo of both sides
• The "teeth" of the key (the cuts) must be clearly visible and in focus.
• This allows our locksmiths to verify that the code provided matches the physical geometry of the key.

3. Submit Your Order via Email

• Accuracy Matters: Please ensure the code is transcribed exactly as it appears. A "0" (zero) and an "O" (letter) can look similar but lead to very different keys!

HOW TO TAKE THE KEY PICTURE

1. Take a Picture (Side 1):
   1. Position your smartphone or camera directly above the key. The shot should be an direct overhead, high-resolution photo. Get as close as possible without distorting the image quality.
   2. Ensure the key is perfectly flat and within the frame. All the bitting (cuts) on the key must be sharp and clearly visible in the image. This clarity is crucial for the measurement tool to work correctly.
   3. Take the picture of the key

Repeat for the Other Side (Side 2):

1. • After taking the first picture, flip your physical key over and place it in the same alignment.
   • Ensure the key is flipped to its other bitting side. The head and blade should be in the same position.
   • Position the camera directly overhead again for a clear, high-resolution shot.
   • Take the picture of the key, ensuring the second side's bitting is sharp and visible.

Why Both Sides? Providing photos of both bitting sides of your key is essential. Keys often have different bitting patterns on each side, which determines the unique cuts needed to operate the lock. To precisely measure and recreate your key's bitting for a replacement, we must analyze and verify the cuts on both sides.

Troubleshooting Tips:

• Good Lighting: Use a room with plenty of light or place a light source (like a desk lamp) to brightly illuminate the template. Avoid shadows over the key bitting.
• Focus: Ensure the camera is focused on the key and template bitting. Blurry photos cannot be measured accurately.
• Scale Verification: The guide on the template notes "PRINT AT 100%." You can verify the scale is correct by measuring the length of the printed template's blade outline against your key's blade. If the bitting seems off or the key doesn't fit, double-check your print settings or screen scale.
• Cleanliness: Ensure the template is on a clean surface and the key is clean of dirt or debris that could obscure the bitting in the photo.
• Resolution: Choose the highest resolution photo setting on your camera or phone. Low-resolution photos will be harder to measure.
